Monks cloth is the most common backing fabric used for punch needle projects. This monks cloth works well with the Oxford and Lavor punch needles.

Punch needle is a modern take on the traditional craft of rug hooking. It involves ‘punching’ a continuous loop stitch into backing fabric using the punch needle tool to create lots of satisfying stitches. The meditative motion of ‘punching’ can be very relaxing, making it easy to switch off from the world. Punch needle is easy to learn and works up quickly compared to other fibre crafts. This kit is the perfect gift for the crafter who has everything!

Specially woven in the UK, this monks cloth is soft but durable making it easy to punch into when stretched tightly on a frame or hoop. Its durability means that you can pull out your stitches and re-punch your design as needed making it perfect for beginners. It has 12-13 holes per inch and there are no guidelines (as with other monks cloth) so ideal if you what to leave the background stitch free.

Width: 150cm/60”

Composition: 100% cotton woven in the UK.

Uses: Punch needle embroidery or rug hooking.

Use with:

- 5.5mm Lavor punch needle

- 4mm Lavor punch needle

- Fine Lavor punch needle (largest tip)

- Regular Oxford punch needles

- Fine Oxford punch needles

Due to the loose weave of the fabric the edges are prone to fraying so please handle with care. I recommend securing the edges with masking tape or overlocking/serging them.

Punch needles pictured are not included and are for illustration only.

This fabric is sold per quarter metre. If you order 1 unit you will receive a fat quarter (50x75cm approx), after which the fabric will be cut in 25cm increments e.g. 50cm, 75cm and so on. If you would like 1 metre please put 4 in the quantity, for 1.5 metres put 6. Fabric will be cut in one continuous length.
